Sriracha Salmon Cakes

By Lindsey Leave a Comment

My husband discovered sriracha a few months ago and he wants it on everything. It is the new favorite condiment in our household.  We put it on our sandwiches and wraps, our eggs in the morning, and our potato fries at night.  We did not realize what a viral sensation sriracha was until we saw a documentary about it on Netflix.  I guess we were caught up in a world-wide fad and did not even know it!
Sriracha Salmon Cakes Recipe

I have been making salmon cakes for the last couple of years.  My kids really enjoy them.  They work naked or on a bun.  I want to try them on the grill but haven’t had a chance yet this spring, but that will definitely be our goal the next time.

I love to eat my salmon cakes with a side of green beans or homemade potato fries.  This salmon cake recipe has the nice spicy kick from the sriracha but also a healthy omega-3 punch from the salmon and chia seeds mixed in - I love chia seeds and they find their way into almost every recipe somehow.

There are a lot of store bought sriracha sauces out there that have some not so savory ingredients in them.  I am searching for a homemade recipe that my husband will like.  If you are interested in a real food version of sriracha I suggest you try it with me.  CLICK HERE to see the DIY sriracha recipe from Nom Nom Paleo.  We are planting our garden right now and we really want to try making and canning our homemade sriracha sauce this year!

Feel free to let me know what you think of the recipe below in the comments! You can tweak the amount of sriracha sauce however your family likes it. If your children are more sensitive to spice, I suggest holding it out on the side and just adding what you like to top your personal salmon cakes.

Ingredients
  1. 1 tbs oil
  2. 4 (7oz) cans of salmon, drained and rinsed
  3. 1 cup of flour (almond flour if looking for a gluten-free alternative)
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1 cup red onion, finely chopped
  6. 1 cup celery, finely chopped
  7. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  8. 2 lemons, juiced
  9. 1 tbs chia seeds
  10. 1 tsp salt (I recommend Redmond's REAL Salt)
  11. 1 tsp black pepper
  12. 1/2 tsp cayenne
  13. **2 tbs sriracha
Instructions
  1. Once salmon is rinsed and drained add to large mixing bowl with all other ingredients, except oil or sriracha if you prefer to save that out to top your cakes with.
  2. **The sriracha is flexible. You can add 1 tablespoon into the mixture and save the other tablespoon for putting on top of your salmon cakes if you like, or mix it all into the batch. It is really up to you and how you like your sriracha. We took all of our sriracha and put it on top of our salmon cakes. If you do not like super spicy foods just try one 1 teaspoon of sriracha and work your way up from there.
  3. Once your ingredients are mixed thoroughly, form into patties and sear in a heated pan in oil for about 5 minutes on each side on medium high heat. I like mine a little crispy on the outside.
  4. This recipe provided 8 salmon cakes for our family.

I am a wife to a wonderful husband and mother to four beautiful children five and under: three girls and one boy. I am a disciple of Christ and I am fulfilling my role to my husband and family as a homemaker. I began The Road to 31 almost two years ago in an effort to focus more as I studied the Word of God and researched those things which were important to me. I found that God used The Road to 31 within my own life to bring community to my front door and allowed me to minister and be ministered to by other women who are walking along the same road as I.
