Finding Grace for those that Defend Abortion

By Lindsey 2 Comments

As a Mother

Maybe I am having a more emotional kind of day. I posted yet another call for action against Planned Parenthood on my Facebook page.  When you use the hashtag #defundPP on your business page you will find that you get some unwelcome guests. With my hands shaking and tears rolling down my cheek, I try to come up with some form of a response that doesn’t just sound like an angry rant. Professionalism falls flat somewhere between talking about this mass genocide and the complete illogical arguments that Planned Parenthood defenders put out there.

The videos … I couldn’t even watch all of them because they stay with me. I was seeing those little hands in my sleep. I think as moms we feel this more deeply. We know what a life feels like inside of us. The wave-like rolls as the baby turns. The twinge of pain as those little feet press into your rib cage. As moms we know what it is like to give birth and feel that rush of relief and love all wrapped up in that beautiful solitary moment as the doctor places your new baby on your chest.  You look down to see that crazy gorgeous face nuzzled against your breast which you have waited nearly 10 long months to meet.

If you struggle with infertility you feel so much pain, knowing that these women throw their babies out like trash. You would treasure that baby, so why don’t they?  If you have lost a baby, watching these moms fall to the lies of Planned Parenthood and intentionally hurt their babies is unfathomable. You would have done anything - ANYTHING - to save your baby. Why didn’t they feel the same?

The girls who are in these situations, who have the abortions, are responsible for their action, but they are also hurt, lied to, and broken.  I believe they all know on a deep spiritual level that this is a human life they are killing, but find a way to suppress that knowledge. The sin is no less, but I could see in a very weak moment my own ability to be overcome by fear, blind justification, and selfishness.  The easy road is the one most often traveled.

I often find my anger directed much more at the defenders of Planned Parenthood and those who are actually performing the crimes. How can they see the baby, feel the baby, and yet still kill the baby?  They have no excuse!

Finding Grace for those who Defend Abortion: Christian Worldview

As a Christian

If I think too long and hard about Planned Parenthood and its agenda my blood boils. I was caught off guard today, however, when a quiet thought slipped within the cracks of the hatred that was stirring.

I could be any of them.

I didn’t have an excuse either. As a sinner, saved by grace, I had no excuse before a Holy God for my inherent sinfulness, love of self, and hatred of God.  But God … right?

I could have been the girl scared to death that she was going to ruin her life by an unwanted pregnancy, that justified the lies because it was easier. I could have been the woman that grew up to embrace liberal notions about feminism, following a career path to Planned Parenthood nurse, management, lab technician, or even doctor.  I could have been the aborted baby.  I am no better. I am no different.

Righteous anger is definitely in order for the killing of babies, but recognition of the grace that kept you from such circumstances is also important.

I am a sinner saved by the grace of a Holy God. I did not choose when I was born, the family I was born into, the Church I was raised in, or the general nature/ nurture I received. The Lord orchestrated all those things according to His kind will and mercy. I did not deserve it. It is bigger than me. My finite mind cannot comprehend His plan in choosing for me this path.  I wasn’t able to choose the way my life began. Common grace rains down on the godless and the God-fearing alike.

A sting comes from knowing that it is the Lord who kept me from becoming who I hate. The Lord removed the scales from my eyes.  I would like to say that I am the one who chose not to walk that path but everything behind and before me pushed me in a direction towards knowing Jesus Christ and walking in the truth of His Word. I cannot boast in my own works, but only in the precious blood of Jesus Christ and His work on the cross.

By Grace Through Faith

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:1-10

Truth and Lies

Those who love Planned Parenthood, those who work for Planned Parenthood, and those who accept their services, they are blinded by sin and selfishness. Their scales are formed of the world’s lies and without the Holy Spirit to remove them, to speak to their hearts, they are utterly lost. What they do, we hate, but who they are, we were once - we could have been them if it weren’t for the staying hand of the Holy Spirit. Prayer and salvation is not some magical force that sweeps through like fairy dust. This is real stuff, the battleground of angels and demons … and you know what? The victory is already won!

We were promised the world would fall in sin. We are commissioned to share God’s Word in love. We trust Him for the harvest. We trust Him that the atrocities committed against these unborn and born babies alike will come to justice whether here on earth or in heaven, but we also pray that the hearts of those committing them will turn to Him in repentance.  In the same way the Lord extended us grace when we did not deserve it, we ought to extend grace in prayer and petition to those who can’t see Him. They are walking into Hell willingly and we appear to be cheering them inside.

The hardest prayers to pray are for those we hate and fear. The Lord often works through the most wretched of sinners. If God’s grace is not prejudiced, than why should we be prejudiced concerning those for whom we pray and share the Gospel? Do they deserve it? No more than we did.

I am a wife to a wonderful husband and mother to four beautiful children five and under: three girls and one boy. I am a disciple of Christ and I am fulfilling my role to my husband and family as a homemaker. I began The Road to 31 almost two years ago in an effort to focus more as I studied the Word of God and researched those things which were important to me. I found that God used The Road to 31 within my own life to bring community to my front door and allowed me to minister and be ministered to by other women who are walking along the same road as I.

Thank you for this most timely post.

But, by the grace of God, go I…..

Yes, praying for those who actually commit the act of murdering a babe in the womb is the hardest. It’s inconceivable to me how they can do it. But, I must pray for them, as well as those who choose this route for their pregnancy. Thanks for the reminder.

    Hello Lindsey,

It’s very upsetting, and I don’t understand how the rest of the population can’t see it from our view. I’m hoping that one day with enough prayers everyone will see that this is murder. I have a relative who is infertile and I can tell that it really tears her up. She would love to have a baby. She talks about it all the time. 🙁 God bless.
