One No Good Very Bad Week
Last week started off on a very sour note. I have been in front of the computer too much trying to complete projects. We are under some financial stress and so when that falls heavy, so does my workload online.
My one and a half year old decided to enter into a new stage of getting into E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. and I am running on little to no sleep with a one month old.
Mama has been running on coffee and fumes for a while now to say the least. The kids have been giving me more grace than I deserve.
On Friday, while I was beginning to clean up the kitchen I realized how little I had seen my kids the last two days. We were all here in one house but mommy was “busy”. So what did I do?
I broke out into song, followed by chasing and tickling, succeeded by an impromptu round of sprinkler fun in the kitchen via the sink sprayer.
What does a mommy blogger do when fun occurs? She takes an Instagram picture of course!
I got all kind of encouraging responses like “You get this year’s fun mom award!” and “You are a better mom than me, that would have given me an anxiety attack!”
What you all do not know is that I am the least fun mom alive and directly after I posted that picture my own mom texted me asking if I was suffering a mental breakdown because spraying water all over my kitchen is so completely opposite of my everyday self.
It got me thinking about how I used to be fun.
For goodness sakes, I chased pigs all summer long when I was in middle school and went backpacking through the Andes Mountains for a week when I was in high school. Come college I participated in a civil war reenactment. I used to do things. I used to enjoy - REALLY enjoy - life.
The last six years have been sprinkled with five kids, financial hardship, multiple cross country moves, and a lot of overwhelming stress.
I don’t really recognize myself in the mirror anymore, and the lady looking back at me isn’t always someone that I want to be.
Do you remember the days when you used to be more fun?
I don’t think we have to resign ourselves to living with this self-defeated attitude! Do you?
Why don’t we do something to proactively cause fun in our households, even if it means a little extra clean-up or something else has to be sacrificed to make it happen.
Not only do I think our kids might like us a little more, we might like ourselves a little more too.
Join the 28 Day FUN Mom Challenge!
The 28 Day FUN Mom Challenge is meant to be an encouragement to mothers everywhere to plug a little fun into every day.
We all need a little accountability in this so myself and Richele from UnderTheGoldenAppleTree.com have teamed up to give you the confidence you might need to keep it up!
What Is this Challenge?
I had this idea, you know the coupons that children give to their moms on Mother’s Day promising to do the chores or provide a foot rub? Well, what if a mom gave her children a set of coupons? What would these look like?
I created a set of 28 colorful coupons for moms of children ages 3-12 that will work in a similar way. These coupons have fun and frugal ideas listed on each one with an explanation on the back as to how to fulfill that challenge. You can cut each coupon out and even laminate them if you like for future use!
Allow the children to pull one coupon out of a jar each day. The goal is to complete the instructions by the end of the day. There are two blank coupons available if you would like to get creative and make your own.

Will You Join Me?
I suspect that the first few days will be very easy and fun, but I think that as the month moves on, us moms might become a little more lazy in our approach and forget why we are doing this - that includes me!
I will be giving you weekly updates as to how myself and my children are fulfilling our challenges and I will bring you a little encouragement to stick with it.
I will also be providing craft ideas and even food recipes along the way to help you as you meet these challenges head on!
I am so hoping that this will stir within us a new joy that we have been missing within our homes.
I am praying that this will revive the love that we have deep within us for our children and making them smile.
Please join me in this endeavor to bring back the FUN Mom I know is within us all, but we may have just lost along the way.

Thank you so much for this challenge. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I used to have more fun when I was single and babysitting than I do most days with my own children. This is just what I needed to give me a push to getting back to enjoying my children more.

Hi Lindsey,
thank you for offering such a creative way to have fun with the kids - I look forward to using these cards with my kids as I tend to not be a “fun” mom. Just a quick question - were the cards meant to be printed in such a way that the back of the cards line up with what is on the front of the cards? If so, how do you make that happen as I have already printed off page 4 and 5 and the back of the “water gun fight” card has the directions for the “build a fort” card. Thanks, Melissa
