DIY Oil Pulling Melts for a Cleaner Mouth

DIY Oil Pulling Melts Recipe

Oil Pulling 101

I have been oil pulling on and off for several years now. I was having issues with a tooth that has a crown on it and after going to the dentist to be reassured that nothing was wrong, I decided to do my own research on how to help with tooth pain. Through my research I discovered that oil pulling can help reverse cavities and even remineralize your teeth.  If you would like to learn more about the benefits of oil pulling for a cleaner mouth CLICK HERE.

I also learned quite a bit about clove oil that you might find interesting.  Mercola has an extensive article concerning the historical uses and modern day benefits of clove oil.  READ THE ARTICLE HERE.

When I first started oil pulling I couldn’t stand the oil in my mouth for more than 5 minutes without gagging, but I had read that you should do it for 20 minutes. So I had to work up to 20 minutes slowly. After the few times I did this, my tooth felt so much better! So much better that I quit doing it for a while until my tooth started bothering me again. This was a good reminder for me to continue on this daily oil pulling regimen.

DIY Oil Pulling Melts

Not long ago, a good friend of mine sent me a picture of these coconut melts that she had made with organic coconut oil and thieves oil. I was intrigued to say the least and inspired to make my own melts and write this post. What a great idea to combine the benefits of both coconut oil and thieves (which contains clove oil as well as lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils). It’s a super easy recipe to make and you will only need a few ingredients.

What you will need:

  • Organic cold pressed coconut oil. I get mine in bulk from Costco.
  • Thieves essential oil. I use Young Living brand and love it! You could also use clove oil if you have it on hand.
  • Any type of silicone mold. I have these cute dinosaur ones that I got to make gummies for my kids.

Directions:

  1. I measured out 3/4 cup coconut oil and gently melted on low heat on the stove in a small sauce pan. You just want to warm the oil enough to be able to stir in the thieves oil.
  2. Add in about 20 drops or so of thieves oil and stir. Then poor the mixture into a pourable measuring cup to poor into the molds of your choice.
  3. Place into the refrigerator for about an hour until they are hard and can be easily popped out onto a plate or cooling rack. Sorry about the poor dinosaur with the detached head, I sort of got in a little hurry.

I have a little obsession with mason jars and decided that my blue ball mason jar was the perfect container to store my melts in. This is a super simple and easy way to always have the perfect amount of coconut oil and thieves oil ready for oil pulling! The flavor is amazing too!

Happy oil pulling!

      Hi Crystal!

You take one at a time in your mouth, swish around for 20 minutes, and then spit it all out. I know it sounds gross but many see it adds crazy benefits to their oral and overall health! I added some links in the body of the article to share more about oil pulling. You can read about it here >> http://foodmatters.tv/articles-1/the-7-health-benefits-of-oil-pulling

These are normally the two most common ones for oil pulling because of their antimicrobial properties.
